Brampton
Food Bank Benefit
On Sunday December 7, 1997, True North Hockey Canada organised an exhibition game between the TNHC Oldtimer Selects and the St. Petersburg Rastro Oldtimers for the benefit of the Brampton Food Bank at South Fletcher's Sportsplex. Brampton Mayor Peter Robinson and Brampton Foodbank Director Tess Stoutley dropped the puck. Former NHL Referee Ron Wicks was the referee and Shane Adamson and Chuck Faultless were the linesmen. Ex-NHL Linesman Ron Finn and former PGA tour pro Bobby Brean coached the TNHC squad to a 7-2 romp over the hapless Russians. TNHC goals were scored by Rick Bent, Mike Borsch, Mark Casganette, Bryan Curley, Greg Czuppon and Jody Hicks (2). Russian goals were scored by Vladimir Yuyukin and "Canadian Mercenary" Mike Minty. Greg Mandsiuk from Sports Radio The FAN was the announcer. The post game party was held at Don Cherry's where Manager Chris Serris donated a PILE of food and team souvenirs. Dave Anderson, Special Events co-ordinator from Labatt provided awards and beverages. A lot of food was collected for the needy and we plan to make this an annual event.
