How
To: Be a Great Team Rep
Organization
Is the key
A
great Team Rep works smart, not hard. We are all aware of how difficult
it can be when you have to be "mother hockey"to your "usually"
adult team-mates. One of the best ways to organize a team is to delegate.
The most successful teamsare run by a group of people, each with their
own talents and responsibilities. For example, there must be at least
one personon the team who can set up a team bank account and act as
treasurer.
You
can go to your local bank and set up an account as a non-profit community
hockey team and the bank will waive the service charges!
Team
Rep's should put together rosters, team newsletters and telephone lists.
The most important thing to remember is that you communicate clearly
and effectively with your team-mates. Many teams have a summer barbecue
in order to get everyone together and collect deposits for the next
season. Organized teams set deadlines and expect team-mates to meet
them.
Most
teams will collect $100.00 from each person on the team at the end of
the regular season and put the money in a team bank account. When the
registration deadline comes, the team treasurer needs to write only
one cheque and that team is guaranteed a spot in the league next season.
You must ensure that your team-mates adhere to team imposed deadlines,
or they may risk losing their spot on the team.
It's
always better to pick character over ability and a cheque over a promise.
When filling holes on your roster, you must ensure that the individual
is made aware of how strict our league is in respect to violence and
verbal abuse of players and officials. Time and time again, we hear
that the new players were not told about the policies and unique rules
of our league.
If
your buddy is a bit of a loose cannon, do him and your team-mates a
large favour and don't add him to your roster. You will be saving
everyone from a potential headache down the road.
Finally...
Stress
the following with your summer team!!
| Rules
for Summer Hockey

Rule #1
Don’t forget to bring your cheque for summer hockey
Rule #2
Don’t forget to bring your cheque for summer hockey
Rule #3
Every one is equal. We don’t care about your skill
level, years of experience, highest level of play. No fingers
will be pointed at anyone for any deficiency in skill levels.
It’s all about having a good time and everyone must get
equal ice time. Summer hockey can prove to be great bonding
experience both on and off the ice and you will probably end up
in better physical shape at the end of the summer.
This can prove to be quite the harmonious and athletic experience
all tied up into one neat one hour package. Unless of course
you forget your cheque for registration for summer hockey, in
which case Screw You, you summer hockey passenger.
We hope everyone has a good season.
Rule #4
There will no ethnic slurs and racial jokes at summer hockey.
We don’t care if you are Jewish, Black, Indian or even the
odd WHIPNEO (White person of no ethnic origin), everyone is welcome
at summer hockey, even Greeks. Please do not propagate
the stereotypical myth of your particular ethnic group by forgetting
to bring your cheque for summer hockey. The fee for summer
hockey is $275
Rule #5
The city has clearly indicated that no alcoholic beverages of
any kind will be allowed in the dressing room for summer hockey.
However food of any type will be allowed. In consideration
for your fellow teammates, we cannot allow anything that is not
kosher, vegetarian, halal or gives of some form of rude odour
that would clearly identify the origin of your parents.
All religious rules go out the window if you manage to get a team
discount on food. Remember, the registration fee for summer
hockey is $275.
Rule #6
Fighting...
Fighting on the ice and in the parking lot cannot and will not
be tolerated. The strictness of this rule must be remembered
at all times. It is your responsibility to make sure nothing
escalates to the point where violence erupts. We are playing
as guests of the other team and above all we want to remain in
the good books of all participants, both our team and theirs.
Any
violation of this rule will result in a fine of one thousand dollars.
(Payable in cash). Every repeat incident will result in
additional thousand dollar fines. This is in addition to
the $275 registration fee for summer hockey. In the interest
of fairness and equality repeat offenders will be more than welcomed
back to summer hockey next year. If you go over the ten-incident
maximum, you will qualify for a forty dollar off coupon for next
year’s summer hockey.
See you Thursday
